[Storage Issue]
If hot-add or hot remove an Intel NVMe drive on AMD system, ESXi will PSOD. This problem is caused by the intel-nvme-vmd driver packaged in the CI image and will be fixed by a future release of such driver.
To avoid PSOD when hot-plug Intel NVMe drives, following workaround should be applied before hot-add/hot-remove:
The first workaround(no need reboot):
Run the following command to disable intel-nvme-vmd module:
# esxcli system module set --enabled=false --module=intel-nvme-vmd
The second workaround(need reboot):
Run the following command to remove the intel-nvme-vmd from ESXi:
# esxcli software vib remove -n intel-nvme-vmd
Removal Result
Message: The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be effective.
Reboot Required: true
